A Summer of Love and Music was held at Millersville University on Tuesday, April 19. MU’s Student Senate presented a multi-media extravaganza featuring music performed from the original historic event, Woodstock 1969.

Four rock bands from the Music Business Technology program opened the show, playing songs from Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Santana and others. Headlining act, Jefferson Starship is an American rock band formed in the early 1970s by several members of the former psychedelic rock group Jefferson Airplane.

Millersville President Dr. John Anderson made two guest appearances, along with Grammy Award winning guitarist David Cullen.

Dr. Barry Atticks is the organizer of the show, “I wanted the students to understand the musical, historical and cultural impact of the event and expose them to the artists who influenced an entire generation of musicians.”

The event has been in the works for a year, however, a month ago, Atticks got the idea of adding an artist who played at the 1969 event. Amazingly, Atticks was able to book both Jefferson Starship (formerly Jefferson Airplane) and John Sebastian (member of Rock Hall of Fame band Lovin Spoonful,) in partnership with Millersville’s Student Senate.
