New Assistant VP for Student Success and Retention

Millersville University’s vice president of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, Brian Hazlett, has announced that Dr. Candice P. Baldwin has been hired as the new assistant vice president for Student Success and Retention.

“We are delighted to welcome Candice to the Millersville University community,” said Hazlett. “She brings a wealth of experience in diversity and inclusion programs that will be a benefit to our students and the entire university community.”

She will begin on June 1, 2016.  Baldwin was selected after a nationwide search and takes the position of Dr. Minor (Will) Redmond, who retired in December.

“I am thrilled and honored to be afforded the opportunity to join Millersville University,” said Baldwin. “I look forward to collaborating with members of the campus community to enhance the already outstanding programs and services to ensure all students are successful at Millersville and beyond.”

Baldwin currently serves as the senior director for Academic Success at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). In her role there she is responsible for the development and implementation of student success initiatives within the Division of Diversity & Inclusion and the Office of the President.

Before joining RIT, she served as the first Director of Multicultural Affairs at Mount Ida College.

Baldwin holds a bachelor’s degree from Hampton University as well as a master’s degree in public policy and Ph.D. in Policy, Planning, and Leadership from the College of William & Mary. She has completed several leadership programs offered by Harvard University, the Higher Education Resource Services Institute and American Council of Education.

 

New Director of Graduate Admissions and Recruitment

Chad Baker has been hired as the new Director of Graduate Admissions and Recruitment for Millersville University. His first day was March 21, 2016. He comes to Millersville after almost nine years at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology in Lancaster.

For the past six years, he served as the Director of Marketing and Public Information for Thaddeus Stevens. Prior to working at Stevens, he was at The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College in Philadelphia, Pa., where he worked as a high school recruiter, promoting the college to high juniors and seniors.

Baker received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Shippensburg University.  His master’s is in Organizational Development and Leadership: Higher Education Concentration.

 He lives in York with his wife and two children.

 

 

New Director of Orientation

Christopher Jachimowicz returns to his alma mater as Millersville University’s new Director of Orientation & Transition Programs. Jachimowicz has developed extensive expertise within the areas of orientation programs, leadership development, student governments and greek life. He has more than 20-years of experience in student affairs throughout the country.

 

Faculty/Staff Activities

Dr. Ximena Catepillan, mathematics, was featured in the NY magazine Latin Trends  https://www.latintrends.com/.  They wrote a feature article about her MU courses Math 102 and Freshman Seminar 103 titled, “Mayan Mathematics.”

Barry Kornhauser, assistant director of Campus & Community Engagement, was recently one of three presenters on a Dance/USA national webinar, “All In: Engaging Audiences with Disabilities.” Kornhauser spoke on the importance of disability arts programming at Millersville University. In addition, the April 2016 issue of “American Theatre” magazine featured an article on a recent production of one of Kornhauser’s children’s plays. The article , “How Did the Rose Theater’s ‘Garden of Verses’ Grow?” mentions Millersville University.

Dr. Nanette Marcum-Dietrich, Educational Foundations, will take part in a project titled “Skilled Women Get STEM Jobs” through Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. They were awarded a National Science Foundation grant of $198, 518 for the project which is aimed at helping diversify the workforce in three high-demand career fields where women are now severely under-represented: Machine Tool and Computer Aided Manufacturing Technology, Electrical Technology, and Water & Environmental Technology. Marcum-Dietrich will assist faculty at Stevens.
