‘Ville Gives Life

Organ donation has touched the lives of the Millersville University campus community in many ways. Join us April 4 from noon until 7 p.m. in the Atrium of the Student Memorial Center for ‘Ville Gives Life: Leave a Legacy, an interactive event aimed to increase awareness of the importance of organ donation.

Informational tables will include games, trivia and prizes for participants from noon until 5 p.m. Students will have the opportunity to dip their hands in green or blue paint and leave a handprint on a large white bed sheet, as a visual representation of the campus unity surrounding this issue. To show support for donor families and recipients still waiting for life-saving transplants, participants will sign thank you cards and well wishes cards. There will be an opportunity for all participants who wish to register to become an organ donor to do so at the event.

The main event of Ville Gives Life: Leave a Legacy is from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. when MU students Jeff Harrison and Ashley Duross, accompanied by their families, will share their stories about how organ donation has impacted their lives.

Harrison is a junior studying speech communication with an option in broadcasting. He is a two-time kidney recipient and has undergone dialysis, while remaining a full-time student and actively involved in the National Broadcasting Society and MUTV.

Duross is a junior studying speech communication with an option in public relations. She donated a kidney to her father in December 2014, while remaining a full-time student and actively involved in the Millersville University chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).

Ville Gives Life: Leave a Legacy is a campaign launched by the Millersville University chapter of PRSSA and will be entered into the National Organ Donation Awareness Competition against other PRSSA chapters across the country. Criteria for the competition includes extent of influence, creativity, execution, publicity, research, professionalism and supplementing materials including media kit, social media presence and promotional video.

PRSSA is a network of more than 11,000 college students interested in public relations and communication. With connections to resources and people to enhance education, members broaden their network and launch their career.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Maggi Mumma at Millersville.PRSSA@gmail.com.
