Spring Break Service Projects at MU

Making a positive change for communities.

Spring Break 2015

Spring break is traditionally the time where college students go to the beach and catch some rays. This year, some Millersville University students are traveling to foreign countries and throughout the United States to make a positive change and impact on communities in need.

From March 5-13, the social work department is hosting a trip to Granada, Nicaragua. Two faculty and 11 students, from multiple disciplines, are embarking on this journey to explore empowering solutions to address poverty and meet human needs.

Experiential Learning and Career Management (ELCM) and Civic and Community Engagement are sponsoring an alternate spring break trip to Bithlo, Fla. The city is an under-resourced area facing pollution, neglect and run-down buildings. MU students will be collaborating with University of Central Florida and be completing service projects for United Global Outreach, a nonprofit organization assisting in the rebuilding of Bithlo.

Closer to home, ELCM is sending a student service team to Stevens, Pa. and other Lancaster locations for three days. The students will be assisting two local organizations, Global Aid Network, a Christian humanitarian organization, and Lancaster Habitat for Humanity.
