The Learning Institute will host “Poverty: A Trauma-Informed Response” on Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. in room 24 of the Student Memorial Center. The workshop is in coordination with Millersville University’s School of Social Work and the Center for Hunger-Free Communities at Drexel University
The three-hour workshop will provide participants with an overview of trauma as it relates to poverty and will feature current research on trauma exposure and the impact of adverse childhood experiences.
Millersville University students, faculty and community members will participate in the workshop to explain what trauma informed work is and how this approach differs from other approaches.
“As with all Learning Institute events, we aim to develop global citizens who are committed to influencing social change on domestic and international levels,” said Dr. Karen Rice, associate professor and chair of social work. “This is done through knowledge gleaned during the workshop and dialogue generated among our participants that fosters their ongoing learning around the global social issue.”
Tickets cost $25, or $5 for students and can be purchased at http://muticketsonline.com.
