MU Salutes Veterans

Veterans Day Activities are scheduled at Millersville

Millersville University (MU) is partnering with Millersville Borough to honor veterans through a series of events including a Veterans Day Ceremony, a Cost of Freedom Forum and a Veterans Health and Wellness event.

A series of events will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 11 including:

  • Veterans Day Ceremony at Freedom Memorial Park at 10:30 a.m.
  • A presentation of colors by MU ROTC cadets at the Student Memorial Center clock tower at noon
  • A Cost of Freedom Luncheon in the Reighard Multipurpose Room located at the Student Memorial Center at 12:15 p.m.
  •  An open house and tour of the Veterans Resource Center at the Mercer House at 1:30 p.m.
  • The events will conclude at 7 p.m. with speaker Kenneth Leland, as he speaks on his volunteer work and brings context to an important time with America’s history in his speech titled “Vietnam in Context: My Tour of Duty.”

Leland was a Marine squad leader who was wounded twice in Vietnam and returned to the U.S. to become a police officer, and later, a chief of police. He retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and currently volunteers to speak about the Vietnam War and lessons learned from his tour of duty.  He is a recipient of the George Washington Honor Medal from the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge.

All events are free and open to public, excluding the luncheon, which is $12.95 per person and is at no cost for veterans. Registrations for the events are required. For more information about the events and to register, please visit villealumni.com or call 717-871-7551.
