October 22, 2015 Activities

What have your colleagues been up to?

Dr. Mark Atwater, Applied Engineering, Safety & Technology (AEST), had the article entitled, “Using Mechanical Alloying to Create Bimetallic Catalysts for Vapor-Phase Carbon Nanofiber Synthesis,” published in a special issue on Carbon Fibers in the peer-reviewed journal “Fibers.” The article was co-authored by three of his undergraduate research assistants, one from chemistry and two from the AEST department. It discusses a low-cost method for producing unique catalysts which are effective in the growth of carbon nanofibers. The article is available online at: http://www.mdpi.com/2079-6439/3/4/394.

Drs. Jill Craven, Sandra Deemer, Erin Moss, Kendra Saunders, and Kathleen Walsh presented “Female Representation in PASSHE Leadership” at both the 1st Annual Diversity Summit: Intersecting Identities at Millersville University, and at The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education Women’s Consortium Annual Conference in Harrisburg. While at the Women’s Consortium, they were invited to give a similar presentation at a state-wide Leadership Institute in summer 2016.

Dr. Kazi Hossain, Early, Middle and Exceptional Education, made a presentation on “Muslims – as Scientists & Mathematicians, not Terrorist!” at the National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME) 25th annual conference, held in New Orleans, LA from October 1-4.

Congratulations to:
Donna L. Geib, Academic Human Resources Coordinator, Office of VP for Academic Affairs, who married Ray Peters on September 19 in Lancaster, Pa.
