Volunteer of the Year

Congratulations to Stephen Kepchar, Jr., Volunteer of the Year.

Lancaster resident, Stephen Kepchar Jr. received the Robert L. Payton Award for Voluntary Service from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) during its District II Annual Conference in Washington, D.C., February 1-3.  In addition, Millersville will honor Kepchar with a reception on February 10.

The award is given annually to an individual who demonstrates leadership in advancement programs, furtherance of the philanthropic tradition, public articulation of needs, goals and issues in education.

An economics graduate of Millersville University, Kepchar was involved in three successive capital campaigns at Millersville, most recently chairing the Soar to Greatness capital campaign cabinet.  The Soar to Greatness Campaign raised $88 million for the University. He also served on the most recent search committee for Millersville University’s president.

“This is quite an honor for Steve and it couldn’t be given to a more deserving individual,” said Dr. John Anderson, president of Millersville.  “Steve is the epitome of a great volunteer – he takes on herculean tasks and performs them flawlessly.  He has devoted significant time, effort and outstanding service to the community.  It is an honor to call him a Millersville University alumnus and dedicated community member.”

Kepchar joined Morgan Stanley Wealth Management in the Lancaster office in 1973, where he is now a senior vice president and wealth advisor, as well as being a 30-year member of the Chairman’s and President’s Club. He has more than 40 years of experience in the financial services industry.

Serving on the board of directors for Student Lodging, Inc., Kepchar is also a member of Millersville’s Advisory Committee of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. He is the past president and current member of Lancaster Sales and Marketing International and serves on the Hospice of Lancaster Advisory Board. He is also on the board of directors of Homestead Village Inc.

In 2012, Millersville University presented Kepchar with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters and in 2013, he received the Outstanding Volunteer Service award from the Millersville University Alumni Association.

He graduated from Millersville University in 1970 and received his executive MBA from Wharton Business Program at the University of Pennsylvania.
