In honor of National Adoption Month and to showcase the talent of Millersville University faculty and students, Drs. Changfu Chang and Barry Atticks, along with their team, will present the newly completed documentary, “Ricki’s Promise.” The  film will be shown on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m. in the Winter Visual and Performance Arts Center., and will be attended by Chinese adoptee Ricki Mudd, the star of “Ricki’s Promise.”

The film follows the journey of the 18-year-old adoptee as she returns to China to live with her long-lost birth parents for a summer, after finding them through a series of extraordinary and improbable events. Her experience is uncommon but not unheard of, and one sought after by many of the nearly 100,000 Chinese children who have been adopted by families in North America.

Written, directed and produced by Chang, a communication & theatre professor at Millersville, “Ricki’s Promise” is the grand finale of the director’s widely acclaimed film series on international adoption. The production took place over six years to complete and was filmed on two continents.

The premiere will feature a live musical performance and an introduction of the production crew. This event is free and open to the public. No tickets are required.

Additionally, “Ricki’s Promise” will be screened at the Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival, the Saint Louis International Film Festival and the Lucerne International Film Festival in Switzerland. The documentary’s world premiere was at the Cincinnati Film Festival in September.
