Harlow Shapley Lecture

Millersville’s physics department will present the 2013 Harlow Shapley Visiting Lectureship on April 25.

Millersville’s physics department will present the 2013 Harlow Shapley Visiting Lectureship on April 25. Dr. Eric M. Schlegel, physics and astronomy professor at the University of Texas, San Antonio, will be the keynote speaker. The lecture, which will be held at 7:15 p.m. in Room 210, Caputo Hall, is titled “Face-on Spiral Galaxies, from Radio to X-ray.”

In the presentation, Schlegel will discuss the current understanding of galaxies using X-rays and radio wavelengths. “Nearby face-on spirals provide the best views of the population of objects that comprise any galaxy,” said Schlegel. “These views differ depending upon the instrument or telescope used to study galaxies.”

The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dr. Sean Hendrick, physics, at Sean.Hendrick@millersville.edu or at 717-872-3412.
