
On August 3, a number of free events will be held as part of Lancaster First Friday at the Ware Center, Millersville University Lancaster. Events featured as part of First Friday at the Ware Center include the following:
Welcome Barry Kornhauser to the Ware Center: 6 – 8 p.m., drop-by
Kornhauser, a noted, much-awarded, nationally recognized playwright of children’s and adult theatre is joining the Ware Center staff in August. Kornhauser will be running the new “Family Arts Collaborative” that will bring a brand new form of entertainment to children and their parents at the Ware Center and the Winter Visual and Performing Arts Center on campus. Stop by and meet Kornhauser and learn more about the “Collaborative.”
Exhibit Opening, “Intrigue”: 6 – 9 p.m.
As part of Millersville’s Four Corners Summer Arts Festival, a juried exhibit, which features the best of show artwork thematically related to the notion of “Intrigue,” will open. This exhibit will run August 3 through August 24. In addition to featuring the winning, best in show artwork from dozens of entries in Four Corners “Intrigue,” the “People’s Choice Award” winner will also be revealed.
Exhibit Opening, “2-D Photography Sculpture”: 6 – 9 p.m.
An exhibit featuring the work New York artist Stephen Barnett will open. This exhibit will run August 3 through August 31. Barnett will be on hand during First Friday at the Ware Center to meet the public and discuss his work. Barnett’s work begins with photographs juxtaposed with lattice-cut poplar wood through the framed image. His pieces are then enhanced with found objects and a touch of color to accentuate a line or as a highlight.
Bridal Couture Fashion Show: 6 p.m. (running every half hour thereafter)
National, award-winning designer Janell Berté, from POSH, will be on hand to narrate this fashion event with her couture bridal gowns and evening wear inspired from the 60s using live models and music by DJ Andy M of Freeze Entertainment. Movement is by Rev9 Dance Company and make-up and hair by Visage a Visage Salon & Spa. The gown of your dreams is within reach right here in Lancaster; POSH has exclusive styles with exceptional service. A highlight of the show will be fashions from Nicole Miller Philadelphia.
