New Appointment of Director, Center for Academic Excellence

Dr. Oliver Dreon has recently been appointed director of the Center for Academic Excellence.

Dr. Oliver Dreon has recently been appointed director of the Center for Academic Excellence at Millersville University, effective August 27, 2012. He will hold this position through the end of spring semester 2015.

Dreon, who currently serves as assistant professor of educational foundations at Millersville, holds a master’s degree in teaching physics education from University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from Penn State University. Previously, Dreon taught physics at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and was an adjunct professor at Wilson College and Seton Hill College.

Most recently, Dreon has been working with Dr. Nanette Marcum-Dietrich, associate professor of educational foundations at Millersville, to research the use of professional development schools to prepare new science teachers. They have presented their work at national and international conferences including the National Association for Research in Science Teaching and the American Education Research Association. Dreon is also an advocate for online education and has co-developed the Camp IDEA professional development workshop at Millersville for faculty to expand their online pedagogy.

During his time at Millersville, Dreon has remained actively involved serving on several committees including the Academic Outcomes and Assessment Committee, the Academic Standards Committee and the University Honors College Committee.
