Senior Class Gift of 2012

The 2012 senior classes’ legacy will be a scholarship to benefit sophomores.

Thanks to the Class of 2012 Senior Committee, a qualifying Millersville University sophomore will have the opportunity to receive extra monetary support towards their education. The committee has decided that all proceeds from this year’s senior class gift will go to establish a new scholarship fund, dubbed “Sophomore Slump.”

“We hope to raise enough funds to make this scholarship an endowment that will last for years to come,” said Brittani Davis, co-chair of the Class of 2012 Senior Committee. “This will give a sophomore a chance to earn additional financial help during their time here at Millersville University.”

The scholarship idea was proposed after recognizing the frustrations sophomore students’ encounter, such as registering for classes, choosing a major and looking for scholarships. To be eligible to receive a “Sophomore Slump” scholarship, a student must complete 30-60 credits, demonstrate financial need, have participated in community service and provide two faculty recommendations.

To raise money for the “Sophomore Slump” scholarship, the committee has planned various events throughout the semester including:

February 18: Senior VIP Box – Come cheer on the Millersville men’s and women’s basketball teams versus Mansfield University. This is “Senior Day,” where senior players and cheerleaders will be recognized and plans for Senior Class activities will be announced.

March 6: Class of 2012 Night at Friendly’sGrab some friends or family and eat at Friendly’s on Columbia Ave., from 6-8 p.m. A portion of your bill will be donated to the Class of 2012 Senior Class Gift.

The senior committee is made up of eight members: Davis, a communications major; Natasha Wilson and Stephanie Hernandez, psychology majors; Andrea Kemp, anthropology; Devon Smith, social work; Gina Spino, art education; Brian Beck, anthropology and Preetham Moras, business management.
