The Millersville Community Parade Committee has named J. Philip Gerber ’67, ’80 and Mary Ann Gerber ’67, ’70M, community leaders, as the 2011 grand marshals of this year’s 15th anniversary event. Grand marshals are selected every year based on his or her significant contributions to the Millersville community.

“The Gerber’s are the epitome of community service to the Millersville Borough and surrounding community and have lived in Millersville for more than 35 years,” said Steve DiGuiseppe, chair of the Millersville parade.
Mary Ann Gerber, Esq., is the current Register of Wills and Clerk of Orphan’s Court and an attorney. Her community service includes the Millersville 250th Anniversary Initiative (co-chair); Millersville Area Historical Society (charter member); Millersville Borough Civil Service Commission member; Rotary International; YWCA Student Diversity Committee; Women’s Republican Club of Lancaster County; Republican Committee of Lancaster County; Lancaster Public Library Board; Lancaster County Records Improvement Committee, to name a few. Additionally, she has served as the immediate past president of the Millersville Borough Council; treasurer of the Millersville University Alumni Association and a member of the Millersville Parade Committee. She holds her bachelor’s and master’s degrees, as well as her certification in psychology from Millersville University and her JD from the Widener Law School (Del.). She taught English in the Solanco School District for 30 years.
Phil Gerber is currently a Millersville Borough Council representative (and past president); Millersville Community Parade Committee Logistics Chairman (2002-Present); Millersville Area Historical Society, president (and charter member); Millersville 250th Executive Committee (co-chair of the Historical/Exhibit Committee); the chairman of the Millersville Borough Historic Commission; life member of the Veterans of Foreign War; volunteer at the Lancaster County Court House Self-Help Center; Millersville University Ganser Library Annual Book Sale volunteer and a Millersville Republican committeeman. Phil holds two bachelor’s degrees from Millersville University (social studies and nursing) and has been employed in various nursing capacities with Manor Care (Lancaster), Whitehall Nursing Home and Lancaster Regional Medical Center, as well as a Health and Code Enforcement Officer with Columbia Borough. He is an U.S. Army veteran and served in the Vietnam War.
