Millersville Hosts Nursing Conference

MU’s Health Services recently hosted this year’s Maryland College Health Nurses Association annual conference.

The nursing staff at Millersville University’s Health Services hosted the Maryland College Health Nurses Association annual conference, “The Bits and Pieces of College Health,” June 8-10, in McComsey Hall. In addition, faculty and staff from across campus presented at the conference.

There were 67 nurses from 24 colleges and universities across six states represented. The topics covered included dental care, cardiovascular assessment, back pain, pap smear guidelines, care of LGBT students, nutrition, alcohol and other drugs on campus, nursing informatics, MU Wellness Initiative and sexual assault prevention.

Speakers from Millersville included John Baltzer, counseling center; Alyssa Dodson, communication student; Dr. Kelly Kuhns, nursing; Dr. Julie Lombardi, wellness and sport sciences; Dr. Susan Northwall, health services; Dr. Kimberly Mahaffy, sociology; Dr. Daniel O’Neill, counseling center; Jayme Trogus, wellness and women’s center; Cassandra Weber, Millersville FNP student; Ashley McLaughlin, computer science graduate; Michelle Perez, division of student affairs and Tom Richardson, housing and division of student affairs.

Speakers from the Lancaster area included Dr. Melissa Crognale, Crognale, Collins and Crognale Family Dentistry & South East Lancaster Health Services; Connie Kiser, The Heart Group; Angela Santos, May/Grant Associates and Michael Bender, Lancaster Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine.

The Maryland College Health Nurses Association is comprised of nurses (registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and nurse practitioners) who work in college health centers. The conference “travels” to a different college or university each year and will be at the University of Delaware next year.
