Marauders Will Host Atlantic Regional at Clipper Magazine Stadium

The Millersville baseball team will host the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional, May 20-23.

On the strength of a 39-10 overall record, the Millersville baseball team earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional and will host the tournament for the first time in school history. The Atlantic Regional will be held at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster, Pa., May 20-23. Millersville and Concord meet in the second game of Friday’s action at 2:30 p.m.

The NCAA made its announcement on the Sunday evening selection show. Millersville was selected to the field for the first time since 2000. Only 48 teams in all of Division II have an opportunity to play for the national title. The field is separated into eight, six-team regions. The winner of the double-elimination regional advances to the NCAA Division II Championship in Cary, N.C.

Joining Millersville in the field is recently crowned PSAC Champion Mercyhurst. The Lakers went 39-10 and earned the No. 2 seed. The No. 3 seed went to Seton Hill (33-13). East Stroudsburg (25-18) earned the No. 4 seed, putting three PSAC schools in the mix and CIAA Champion Winston-Salem State landed in the No. 5 spot. The 30-23 Rams made a surprise run through the CIAA Tournament, defeating favorite St. Augustine’s twice in the championship round.

The No. 6 seed and Millersville’s first round opponent is the automatic qualifier from the WVIAC, Concord. Concord, which is 26-24, ran through the WVIAC Tournament with a perfect 4-0 record and defeated W.Va. State 13-7 for the automatic bid.

Millersville, which won the PSAC East for the second time in four years, tallied 38 of its 39 wins against regional opponents. The team has already totaled the second-most wins in school history. It will be just the third NCAA Tournament appearance for the program.
