Millersville Takes Silver

Millersville University recently received a Silver Accolade award at the 2011 CASE District II Conference in Baltimore for the “Snowflake Students for Fundraising,” in the category of Digital Computer Enhanced Images. The award winning image, designed by Wendy Sheaffer, University Communications and Marketing, was used in the 2009-10 annual fund marketing materials.

Faculty & Staff Activities

Dr. Stacey Irwin, communication and theatre, was recently voted to the Susquehanna Sustainability Business Network (SSBN) Board of Directors for 2011-2013. SSBN is a nonprofit network of businesses, nonprofits and social entrepreneurs committed to building a more socially, environmentally and financially sustainable local economy in Lancaster and York Counties. Irwin’s charge on the board is to help the organization enrich internal and external communication, enhance the “York and Lancaster Green Pages” and encourage civic engagement between the Department of Communication and Theatre’s Project Green Lancaster website and SSBN members and partners to increase education about local sustainability initiatives.

Dr. M. P. A. Sheaffer, English, was an alto ringer in the Canterbury Choral Society’s winter concert of Cherubini’s “Requiem in C-Minor” on February 27, in New York City.

Retired

Dr. Saulius Suziedelis, professor emeritus of history, recently published the second edition of the Historical Dictionary of Lithuania (2011), a 426-page volume as part of the Historical Dictionaries of Europe Series. In addition, on February 6-8, Suziedelis was an invited participant at the international conference, “No Simple Stories: Jewish-Lithuanian Relations between Coexistence and Violence,” held at University College London, during which he delivered a paper, “Memories of Blood: Examining Lithuanian Responses to the Holocaust.”

Dr. Thomas C. Tirado, professor of history emeritus, who has won the title of “Outstanding Visual Artist of San Diego” three times, recently took second place in a prestigious art show sponsored by the San Diego Art Department of the San Diego Art Institute. The digital image of the acrylic painting that won 2nd place, “Red Wicker Triptych” is shown here.
