Summer Trip to Peru

On May 23, Dr. Christine Filippone, art history, will lead a 10-day trip to Peru for interested travelers.

On May 23, Dr. Christine Filippone, art history, will lead a 10-day trip to Peru for interested travelers. The itinerary includes traveling to Lima, Cuzco, Pisac, Machu Picchu, Puno, Taquile Island and the Uros Islands. Activities during the trip include native-guided sightseeing tours, a cruise on Lake Titicaca, museum and temple visits, hiking excursions, train rides and shopping at local markets.

Filippone co-organized the trip with the chair of the modern languages department at Immaculata University, Marisa Pereyra, who will function as a co-leader for this trip.

Filippone has co-led two study abroad trips for students at Peace College in Raleigh, N.C.; a trip to Spain in 2006 and a trip to Greece in 2008. She has also traveled to countries in Central and South America including Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Guatemala, on personal trips.

In her current research, Filippone examines science, technology and utopias in the work of contemporary women artists. She plans to expand her research to include utopian investigations by South American artists and collectives in the 1960s and ‘70s.

The total cost for students will be $2,871 and for adults the cost will be $3,236.
