Day of Percussion at Millersville University – Lancaster

Millersville’s music department is co-sponsoring, a Day of Percussion, March 18 and19, at Millersville University – Lancaster.

Millersville’s music department and the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society are co-sponsoring, a Day of Percussion, March 18 and19, at Millersville University – Lancaster, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster.

The event begins Friday, March 18, with a 7:30 p.m. concert featuring two internationally recognized percussion duos, Loop 243 and Marassa.

Registration for clinics and sessions takes place Saturday, March 19, from 9:30 a.m. – 10 a.m., followed by morning educational sessions on Brazilian music with Jorge Sacramento and marimba with Nick Papador.

Saturday afternoon includes a festival of regional percussion ensembles from 1 p.m.-3:30 p.m., featuring percussion ensembles from Millersville University, Juniata College, Lancaster Catholic High School, Mannheim Township High School, Ephrata High School and the Pennsylvania Academy of Music. Internationally renowned drum set artist Billy Ward will present from 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

The event concludes Saturday evening with a 7:30 p.m. Gala Concert featuring Jorge Sacramento, Nicholas Papador, Overdekte Brug Percussie Trio and Billy Ward, with an all star ensemble of percussionists.

A wide variety of music cultures will be represented at this event including traditional concert music, world music, mallet percussion, jazz and contemporary classical music. Cultures of Afro-Caribbean and West African folkloric background Haitian Vodou tradition, North American popular music contemporary classical music and Far Eastern traditions will be showcased.

All events take place at MU-Lancaster. Tickets are required for the two evening concerts. Tickets cost $10 and may be purchased at Gerhart Hall (22 E.
