  • Where should archival materials (from university departments, clubs, etc.) be dropped off?
    • The university archives are located in Franklin House on George Street during the renovation period. We will continue to collect and provide access to university archival materials throughout the library renovation project.   • When will the old library building be closed for construction?
    • Please visit our Project Timeline for details and continue to check this blog for updates, we will be sharing information as it becomes available. The new library is tentatively slated to reopen by fall of 2013.
  • Where will I find quiet study space while the Ganser building is closed?
    • The university provides library-sponsored study spaces during the fall and spring semesters (check back once the semester has begun). These spaces are available on a first come, first serve basis. Our Study Space @ Millersville calendar will be updated at the beginning of the fall 2012 semester to help students identify available space on campus.
      Faculty members and student organizations can reserve rooms in the SMC by visiting: http://www.studentservicesinc.com/smc/weekly-reservations/. The SMC also offers many lounge areas for studying and meeting and hours can be located on their website.
  • When will the new library building be open to the public?
    • Please visit our Project Timeline for details and continue to check this blog for updates, we will be sharing information as it becomes available. The new library is tentatively slated to reopen by fall of 2013.
  • Will course reserves continue to be available?
    • Yes, course reserves will continue to be available throughout the renovation. Faculty members should visit the For Faculty section for details on course reserve procedures.
  • What will happen to the physical library materials during the renovation?
    • Physical materials are being stored in a secure off-site location during the renovation to ensure that the renovation can proceed as quickly as possible, and to protect the materials during the construction.
  • Can students check items out from the library before the renovation begins and renew them during construction?
    • Students can check out an unlimited number of items and can borrow them for 28 days at a time. You can renew your items online, via phone (717-872-3612) or stop by the temporary library in Gerhart with your Millersville ID card. Faculty members with questions about renewal policies should visit the For Faculty section.
  • After construction, will both of the elevators be new?
    • Yes, once construction has been completed, both elevators seen in the preliminary design will be new. One will use the existing elevator shaft and the second will use a newly-created elevator shaft.
  • Will both elevators stop at the balconies?
    • Yes, in the new library building, all elevators will stop at all levels, including the balconies.
  • Will videos/DVDs be available?
    • Our entire collection of videos and DVDs is available at the temporary library in Gerhart. Portable DVD players are available to Millersville students for 4-hour checkout from the Circulation Desk.
  • Where will everything be located?
    • Library services can be found at the temporary library in Gerhart (see #44 on the printable campus map). A subset of our physical collection (including DVDs and curriculum materials) are available there for use. Gerhart is where students, faculty, and staff can go to pick up and drop off Request It (E-ZBorrow) items. Librarian offices have been relocated to academic buildings across campus, including McComsey, Stayer, Osburn, Caputo, Hash, and Boyer. Locations, contact information, and office hours can be found on our directory.
  • How can I donate to the library renovation project?
    • If you are interested in becoming a donor for the Millersville University Library renovation project, please visit Soar to Greatness and designate your support to the university library. We thank you in advance for your support which is integral to this project’s success.
  • Where can I drop off book donations for the Friends of Ganser Library Annual Book Sale during the construction?
    • The Friends of Ganser Library is not currently collecting book donations. There will be no annual book sale while the old library building is under construction. In the meantime, we encourage you to check with your local public library to see if they are able to accept book donations.
  • Who do I contact if I have questions?
