Learning By Doing Activities

In this construction assignment, we focused on how different materials affect the strength and stability of a structure. I learned how factors like weight distribution, support placement, and material choices all play a role in whether something can hold up under pressure. Seeing how small changes—like adding a brace or switching to a stronger material can make a huge difference really showed me how important planning and testing are in construction. Overall, this assignment helped me understand the basics of structural integrity and how real-world builders prevent failures.

This was our Cost of College assignment, and it really opened my eyes to how much I’m actually spending on school. I didn’t realize how many different areas the costs get divided into until I broke them all down. Seeing the totals for things like tuition, supplies, housing, and everyday expenses helped me understand where my money is going and what I’ll need to plan for in the future. Overall, it gave me a clearer picture of what college really costs and how important budgeting is.

This was our goal-setting worksheet, and it helped me map out what I want to accomplish over the next four years. Breaking everything down made it easier to see the steps I need to take and what I should focus on. It gave me a clearer direction and helped me think about my future in a more organized way.

This was our 3D printing assignment. We started by creating a design on the computer, making sure the model was shaped exactly how we wanted it. Once the digital model was finished, we sent it to the 3D printer, and it built the object layer by layer. In the end, it printed a full Lego brick that matched our design. It was cool to see something we created on a screen turn into a real, physical object.

This was the laser engraving keychain we made. First, we designed it on the computer during our typography assignment. After we finished the layout, we sent it to the laser printer. There were a lot of steps to make sure all the measurements, settings, and placements were correct so the machine could engrave our names into the piece of wood accurately. It was really cool to see the design come to life.
This was our electronics assignment. We had to build a circuit board that included a switch to turn a light on and off. The goal was to create a design where only the light was visible, while all the wires and the circuit board were hidden. It took some planning, but it was cool seeing everything work together once it was finished.

This was another worksheet we worked on to help us plan ahead for all four years of our college experience. It made me think about the classes I’ll take, the goals I want to reach, and how everything fits together over time. It really helped me get a better idea of what my next few years could look like.

Our Plan of Study worksheet helped us map out which classes we should take over the next four years. It also helped us get prepared for choosing our classes for the Spring 2026 semester. Overall, it made the whole process of planning ahead a lot easier to understand.

We also had the “Try Something New” assignment, where we had to stick with a new habit for 30 days. I chose to try stopping my nail-biting. It wasn’t easy, but doing it every day helped me stay more disciplined and aware of my habits. It was a good challenge and actually taught me a lot about self-control.

We had the typography assignment, which focused on different fonts and how they can affect the way someone reads text. It showed us how style, size, and spacing can change the mood or meaning of something. It was interesting to see how much impact a simple font choice can have.
