2022 MU Idol

 

The 2022 Virtual MU Idol Competition this year features TWO competitions in one event!

Calling all High School Seniors and entering first year students who are interested in attending Millersville University and majoring in music!

 

Do you dream of becoming a pop or rock star? Do you sing or play guitar? Show off your talents by entering the 7th annual MU IDOL competition hosted by the Music Business Technology program at Millersville University! Vocal and guitar students are invited to send a short clip of themselves to participate in the competitions. Everyone will get professional feedback from industry pros during the show.

 

Important Dates:

  • March 11th – Online Submissions are due, send to atticks@millersville.edu
  • March 15th – Finalists will be revealed for participation in the awards show
  • March 20th – The virtual MU Idol show will be Via Zoom at 4pm

Guidelines for Vocal Entries:

  • Song choice – contemporary pop, rock folk, R&B, or country only. (No classical or musical theater in order to stay with the “idol” type of format.)
  • Must be performed with an accompaniment such as performance tracks (singing with a recording of backing tracks, accompanied by a piano, or guitar. No a cappella entries will be accepted.
  • ENTRIES MUST BE UNDER 4 MINUTES LONG

  • Video auditions should be posted to YouTube link to your video should be emailed to atticks@millersville.edu

Guidelines for Guitar Entries:

  • Song choice – 1-2 minute of your best electric guitar solo with a backing track for ROCK or POP entries, and for JAZZ use a backing track or IREAL PRO.
  • Must include 30 seconds of your best electric rhythm guitar playing, good groove, good chords, good time, good iconic riffs
  • Registration – pre-register HERE

Format of the event:

This year’s event is completely online. This year, a singing competition and guitar competition is sponsored by Millersville University’s Music Business Technology Program.

Our MBT judges will then pick videos of finalists in the vocal competition and the guitar competition will be showcased in an American Idol style show where we will briefly interview students who are chosen for the showcase.

Competition Prizes

-Winners will receive 3 hours of recording time in the recording studios at Millersville Tell School of Music

-Winners who are future freshman or transfer students to Millersville are eligible for a scholarship (minimum $500) which will be applied in the first semester of attendance at Millersville University. This is not transferable to any other school.
