Fall Semester Plan

My plan for the semester involves using my newly learned note taking skills to achieve success. My note taking skills will include trying to shorten the readings while still taking down the important information. Since I will be getting more time to do my work, I will able to take in the information better. I feel like I can achieve this because I will have days off for some classes. So I can separate the work I will do for each day and if I have time I can work on the assignments I was assigned that day. The most important thing to learn is to manage my time.

I have been told that as we go through to never get comfortable. I must always be on my toes to get by. Note taking hopefully will be improved throughout my time hear. Learning how to manage class work will be a process. The heavy work load will only shape me into harder working man.

Note Taking Strategies

I didn’t really get to use the new note taking strategies I learned last week in Dr. Corkery’s class. I don’t really have to take notes in his class because he always want us to write a response about our understanding of the readings. The strategies work more with Dr. Garcia’s class. I was more effective with taking notes on the articles.

Most of the moments where i noticed what i was doing was when i was taking notes on Dr. Garcia’s assigned articles. I added some new strategies with my own. Visualizing the the purposes of the articles helped me see the significant connections between certain ones. My quiz grades improved from the first ones i took.

Note have always been an essential aspect of my learning process. I can shorten my notes when i read the articles, then come back to them and know what I meant. I take long notes, but my strategy works out in the long run. I feel like my learning skills are improving.

Reading Strategies

While taking notes for Mr. Garcia’s articles, I used some of the provided reading strategies to help me. I tried to time how fast I was reading by focusing on the more important parts of the articles. I make sure to read in quiet, calm environment. I wrote notes about the articles in my own word as i have always done. Sometimes imagine what I am reading in the articles, but more often i reflect upon what I am reading.

Some of the strategies I used worked more than the others I used. When I read the articles, writing down the information helps me more than imaging and reflecting upon them. When I read my notes the next day, I will reflect more and imagine scenes of events in the articles. Most of the time it really doesn’t matter if I’m in a quiet or noisy environment because I can block out those distractions and focus on my work. It mainly all depends on how dedicated I am to getting my work done in that point of time.

Strategies I will continue to use are the previous strategies I have been using because they have been successful for me so far. The most effective one obviously is the note taking due to the fact that’s its your personal source on paper instead of having to use your memory. I enjoy imaging and reflecting upon the articles more when I have more time to do my work. This is mainly a source used used for my own personal entertainment to keep me from getting bored with my work.

Only using the specific strategies I have listed will help me in my work. They help me to achieve a more better understanding for the articles. These ways provide a great way to practice managing my time. My note taking will become even better once I learn more strategies to use.

Learning how to wrestle

When I started to learn how to wrestle, it was my freshmen year of high school. At the time I was in football practice when the wrestling coach came in and tried to get us to join the wrestling team by saying the sport would help us in in football. Beforehand, my father had kept telling that I need to wrestle, but I didn’t listen. Then, when Coach Gaul, the wrestling coach, told us I should come out I made the decision to do so.

My first day they showed me the stance, how to take to people down and some basic defensive moves. After that they put me up against some of the best of the team. I remained on the matt most of the time I wrestled. Of course, I was upset that I didn’t do great, but at the same time I knew that this was a process just like everything else in life. Unfortunately, I had to wrestle my first match when I was no where near ready. Due to some members in weight class of the team not being able to make to the meet, I was shown what great high school wrestlers could do to you. Though I loss every match I wrestled that day, my coach admired my courage and gave me the strength to continue my wrestling career.

The more time I did it I learned new moves that helped me gain the upper hand in the sport. I wished I had wrestled as long as some of the other kids doing the sport because over a four year time period I still struggled in my matches. The pain of losing made me want to quit, but the joy of winning caused me to push on. This experience helped me develop traits of discipline, strength, courage and more that I can use in life.
