This activity was centered around the topic of typography and using physical type to create media. We watched videos and explored topics surrounding the creation of type and the printing press, the creation of physical media pre-printing, ruling the printing press era, and post-printing press. We learned about Johannes Gutenberg, inventor of the first printing press. The purpose of the activity was for us to gain experience using physical means to create physical media. A lot of the work we do nowadays involves using digital means to create media or art, so learning a form of physical creativity was very refreshing. I enjoyed learning about the history of the invention and how its utilization revolutionized the modern world, especially the spreading and sharing of information. Overall I liked this project, but it was hard to relate to because printing or creating with physical media is something that is becoming increasingly outdated. Systems used back in the day are being replaced by computers, so learning something hands-on was unique and interesting.
