Hello my name is Jordan Alexander. I’m a freshman attending Millersville University. My major is Packaging technologies currently. My S.M.A.R.T. Goals are to have my own business. I will achieve this goal by in the next couple of weeks minor in business classes to further my knowledge. Laser Engraving
Laser engraving is a precise technique that uses a focused laser beam to etch designs, text, or images onto a variety of materials, including wood, metal, glass, and plastic. The laser vaporizes the material’s surface, creating a permanent mark without the need for ink or other consumables. It is widely used in industries like manufacturing, personalizing products, and creating intricate artwork or signage. Laser engraving offers high precision, speed, and versatility, making it a popular choice for both small-scale and large-scale production. From laser engraving, I learned various technical and creative skills, including how to operate and calibrate a laser engraving machine, and how to select and prepare materials for engraving. It taught me about precision and how small adjustments can affect the outcome of a design, helping pay attention to detail. Additionally, laser engraving provides insight into how technology can enhance creativity, allowing for complex designs and customization in a variety of industries.
Electronics
Electronics greatly aid electricians by providing tools that enhance accuracy and safety during electrical work. Devices like multimeters and circuit testers allow electricians to quickly check voltage, resistance, and current, ensuring systems function properly. Digital tools, such as voltage detectors and laser levels, help identify issues and make installations more precise. Mobile apps and software also assist electricians in managing project details, creating reports, and communicating with teams in real time. Overall, these electronic tools improve efficiency, reduce errors, and contribute to safer working conditions for electricians. While students were challenged with creating a circuit out of simple materials, we got to see just how easy it was. We also had to create a 2-circuit track using the same materials.
30 Days Challenge
In class we were tasked with trying something new for 30 days and I choose to write. Writing for 30 days is a powerful way to build a consistent writing habit and enhance one’s skills over time. By committing to write every day, I created a routine that helped overcome procrastination and writer’s block. This daily practice encourages creativity, pushing me to explore new ideas, styles, and techniques. It also allows for self-reflection, helping track progress and identify areas that need improvement. Ultimately, writing consistently for 30 days can boost confidence, improve focus, and turn writing into a natural, enjoyable process. After writing for 30 days, I noticed I wasn’t just watching others do the activities, but I enjoyed them myself.
3D Modeling
3D modeling is the process of creating a digital representation of an object or scene in three dimensions using specialized software. It is widely used in industries like architecture, animation, engineering, and gaming to visualize designs before production or construction. By manipulating geometric shapes and surfaces, 3D modeling allows for realistic simulations, aiding in design, testing, and refinement processes. Because in taking a drafting class using the Fusion software wasn’t that hard but I also followed a video which was very helpful. When the logo’s were printing the process took longer than I thought but it was cool to watch for a little while.
Construction (BIM)
In class, we completed an assignment on Building Information Modeling (BIM), which involves creating structures that can support weight without material failure, while improving project efficiency. Creating the structures I got to see what builders were tasked with doing on a smaller scale. BIM integrates various aspects of construction, such as design, spatial arrangements, and cost, into a digital model that enhances collaboration, reduces errors, and minimizes risks, ultimately leading to lower costs and more accurate project outcomes. The technology also allows for continuous updates, fostering better decision-making and resource management across all project phases, and is transforming the construction industry by promoting innovation and efficiency
Typography
I was assigned a typography project where we had to select appropriate fonts for different jobs, which helped me learn how different fonts can communicate various messages. In my previous graphics class, I typically used thick fonts for banners and cursive fonts for more elegant designs, but for the typography assignment, I struggled to pick the right font for a graphic design artist, as my focus is more on the visual design than traditional typography. Before this project, I hadn’t thought much about font choices unless it was for a specific client project in my graphics class.
