Fall Semester

Hello all!!! With the summer beginning to end and the fall semester coming I could not be more excited. At the same time I am also scared because I have never been around this many students in my whole life all at once. There are going to be so many new students and they are all going to be lost. Now since I have been here for over a month I do know where I am going which is good because then I can help people if they get lose. For the fall semester I plan on making time for myself and getting all of my work down before I am able to go out and do stuff. My goal is to try my best and give my classes my all. I am also nervous to meet all of my professors because I do not know what they are going to be like and how they are going to teach. With my learning disability and everything, going into an atmosphere with a different learning style scares me at first and usually takes me a little before I get used to everything. Some other goals are to just get through the semester and try my best and make friends and work hard and get all of buy work done. Also never forget to save time to yourself. Personal time is going to be good to focus on yourself for a little and to just take a break from what is going on around you and in your class.

Reflecting on note-taking strategies

Hello everyone,

Lately I have been taking note on how I take notes and what works best for me. I have. noticed that reading what I am taking notes on first before I start reading works for me and then reading and taking notes as I am reading helps. Also taking good notes and knowing what you are taking notes on is important. I have learned that writing everything down doesn’t help but just writing important information down will be helpful. Even know that everyone is different if you get in the habit of looking at what works best for you then you will start to take note on how you take notes.

As I am doing some of my homework I take notes as I am reading and I write down whatever I think is important with what I am doing. I think that just taking notes as you are reading makes things easier especially for me. Going back and looking at your notes makes things easier so you can remember what you have read in case if you have forgot. Taking notes is helpful no matter what you are doing it doesn’t have to be just for school. You can also underline things and you can go back and see them. You just have to find what it good for you.

Adapt and overcome

When I was in elementary school I always had a hard time learning. I was always the one that was always behind in school, took me longer to do different things that we were doing. I felt like I was just different from everyone else in all my classes. Once I moved in third grade I felt a little bit different about myself but at the same time I just felt like I was a little far behind and wasn’t sure how to fix this. Once I started fifth grade one of my teachers pull me aside and tested me for a learning disability. As a fifth grader I wasn’t really sure what that was or what that meant. So once I asked. what that was they had told me that it is when someone has a hard time learning and a hard time staying focused. I also had a hard time being able to fit in because everyone thought that I was stupid but I wasn’t. What was happening was my brain just works a little different than everyone else’s. It takes me more time to think about things and maybe takes me more time to take tests and things but it’s not that I am stupid it’s just that my brain works in different ways.
