“Turn Up Tuesday” Event

On Tuesday, March 19th, East Village held an event they called “Turn Up Tuesday.” During this event, students were given the chance to participate in a lip sync battle and put their lip syncing skills to the test. All of the East Village A RAs collaborated on the event to make it run smoothly. The RAs involved included RA Alexandra, Evelyn, Lucas, Michael, Alexis, Kyre and David. The event had many students in attendance and provided an experience where students can have fun and take a break  from their stressful class and work schedules.

The lip sync battle did not have a winner, however there were over 10 different performances. Even the RAs joined in on the fun and provided a group performance of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing.” The event also had free snacks and drinks for those who performed or came out to watch the performances. Overall, many students enjoyed this event and had a great time. Many students even stayed  a longer time to socialize and meet other students who lived in the building.

RA events can be a great way for students to meet new friends and have a great time. Make sure to look for similar or other events that are going on in your residence hall!

  • Why did you want to become a RA?

One of the main reasons I wanted to become a RA was to gain more responsibility.

  • What is the most valuable part of being a RA?

The most valuable part of being a RA is the personal growth you develop from interacting with residents, staff, supervisors, etc.

  • What is your favorite program you held for your residents?

My favorite program was probably last year when we put on a hall wide scavenger hunt. That was pretty fun!

  • What do you hope your residents get out of you being their RA?

I want them to be able to understand they have an open ear and a person to talk to if they have problems or concerns or if they just need to talk.

  • Do you have any valuable tips or tricks that you have learned from your time here at MU to pass on to other students?

One tip I have would be to take your laundry out of the washer/dryer when its finished. Also, be sure to put water in your easy mac before microwaving it.

  • What is your favorite part of living in the residence halls?

My favorite part about living in the residence hall is the community here. Also, I’m not too far from McComsey.

  • Why did you choose to come to Millersville?

I chose to come to Millersville because it was far enough from home that I could be independent, but close enough so I could always go back if I needed to.

  • What is your favorite class you have taken at Millersville?

I would say any class with Dr. Cuthbert and Political Geography.

  • Do you have any upcoming events?

Nope. Not at this time.

Save Energy and Participate in Ville Unplugged!

Ville Unplugged is an energy conservation campaign that runs each year here at Millersville in the Spring. This year, the campaign will run from March 25th to April 14th. The purpose of this campus-wide campaign is to reduce campus energy levels in order to become a more sustainable campus. If we all try to reduce our individual energy used through simple acts, we can save our campus energy and in turn help the environment.

Faculty, Staff and Students are encouraged to participate in this years Ville Unplugged. If you click on the link here, you can check in on the amount of energy your Residence hall is using or conserving based on other days in the week once the event starts. There is also a graphic of the amount of energy the classroom buildings are using compared to one another. If we all make small changes to our energy consumption we can save our campus a great amount of energy. Here are some ways you can help to reduce your residence hall’s energy consumption!

  1. Shut off the lights when you leave a room, office or classroom.

Often times we forget to turn off lights when we leave a room which can waste energy. Whether you are in your residence hall, library, classroom or anywhere else on campus make sure to hit the light switch on your way out!

  1. Open your blinds and use natural light instead of lighting fixtures.

Natural light can increase your mood and save energy. If you are in your room during the day, opt to use natural light instead of turning on your lights or lamp in your room.

  1. Unplug chargers or chords that are not in use.

If you are not using something you have plugged in, make sure to unplug it to save energy. Sometimes we forget to unplug our charger after we remove it from our phone, but this can waste a great amount of energy.

4.  When doing laundry, wash your clothes in cold water instead of warm.

By opting to use cold water, you will save extra energy because the water will not need to be warmed up.

5. Do not leave the water running while you brush your teeth.

Brushing our teeth is a daily task we participate in. By taking the time to turn the faucet off while we brush, we can save our residence hall energy. Also, if you use cold water instead of warm it can also save more energy!

By altering simple tasks we complete each day we can save energy and make a difference in our environment. We hope you will implement some of these tips and watch to see what building will use the least amount of energy. If you have any other energy saving tips tweet them at us! Happy Room Hunting Marauders!

Activities To Get You Excited For The Spring Season

This winter has been very dark, cold and has been filled with snow. Spring is right around the corner, but some of us can’t see the end of winter in sight. Winter weather can make us tired and feel gloomy, but it is time to wake up and smell the roses. Spring is a time of happiness and bright colors which can make us happier and in a better mood. As we wait  for warmer weather and the happiness of the season, I have compiled a list of things you can do to prepare for spring and to get out of the winter blues mindset.

  1. Buy a bouquet of flowers and put them in a vase in your room.

Adding a fresh bouquet of flowers can increase your mood because of how bright and beautiful the flowers are. It can also be nice to take care of the flowers. If flowers are not your thing, try buying a succulent!

2. Add some new decor to your room that is brightly colored.

Incorporating some news posters or decor that is brightly colored into your room can get you in the spring mood. Seeing the bright colors can remind you of the colors and warm weather of spring.

3. Write a list of fun things you and your friends can do in the spring weather.

Making plans and thinking of fun things to do once the weather gets warm can make you excited for the start of spring. Maybe plan a hiking trip or go to a baseball game!

4. Exercise or take a walk outside once the weather starts to get a little bit nicer.

Taking a walk outside is great exercise and can help to clear your mind if you are stressed out. Once it gets a bit warmer it will also be nice to go outside and get some sun exposure.

5. Schedule yourself time in your busy schedule to take part in some spring cleaning.

Spring cleaning can be very good to get rid of germs and tidy up your room. It can also be very beneficial to take some heavy sweaters out of your wardrobe and add in your lighter spring sweaters and items of clothing.

6. Treat yourself to a new spring outfit from your favorite store.

Since the weather is going to get warmer and nicer, you may need a new t-shirt or dress in your wardrobe. That means it is time to treat yourself for all of the hard work you have been doing!

All of these small activities can change your mindset and make you ready for the warm spring air. So, take the time to get rid of those winter blues and engage in cheery activities to welcome the spring season! Let us know if you have any other ideas that help you get into the spring spirit. Motivational Quotes To Help You Get To Spring Break

Face it, we have had many snow days and it is getting hard to keep track of classes and assignments when due dates keep getting pushed back. When this happens, personally I lose motivation and I need to refocus in order to stay on track. Along with this feeling, spring break is right around the corner which also can contribute to slacking in our classes. To fight these feelings I have gathered some inspirational quotes to get you through this and make it successfully to spring break without easing up on your work.
