New Beginning

Enter a new college setting can be be adventurous but also very bemused.  Throughout the summer I’ve erudite all the strategies given to me and will make sure that I  implement them. Throughout the four years that I’m at Millersville I will have my ups and downs academically but these strategies and tips will help me to make less of those mistakes. Normally people have a specific study time and that plays a role in your note taking and studying because you have to be focus and attentive when doing your work.

The plan I have for the incoming fall is to make sure I take good notes when studying especially for most reading based classes. Picking out specific key things will be vital to study cause it helps to give you a overall understanding of your study. Over a period of about a week I will make sure I revise every paper or page I take notes on so that but the time exams come around ill be able to remember the stuff from the beginning. Another interesting way to reconsider using is sticky notes about certain definitions or notes.

Not just about academically studies but make sure im being attentive and focused while in class because sometimes professors may say things that are key to an upcoming quiz or exam.

Insights

My embark on how I’ve applied note taking strategies have helped me as a person tremendously.  It helps you to not make the same mistakes of the past and believe it or not helps you with your vocabulary. When reviewing work to help with your studies, the strategies are a great way to do note taking or even self studying. Even when writing, applying these strategies will enable you to write or even study better in whatever paper you write or study.

When note taking you always wanna stay aware of your continuous writing to keep track of not only your ideas but also the way you use your thought process. Many times your thought process is what make your note taking process. For example, when taking notes from a passage you wanna make sure your ideas are in order or else you will get confused. Look out for  specific words or phrases that  may help with your note taking: names, dates, places, lists etc.

One easy and main way I use doing my note taking and finding specific words that relate to that certain part of the notes. When found, you research the word and think how you can implement it in your writing or whatever it may be. Another way could be to remember important names cause a lot of times they will come in handy for the test or research paper you’ll have to write or take.

Reflecting on my new strategies

when reading Dr.Corkerys class materials, I would often ask myself questions about the material that way I can focus on my response. Then I would consistently search answers to specific questions asked by the the material. When I find the answer I would ask myself the question again to see if the answer matches the question. Secondly I would mentally visualize main point of the character to have an idea of what I’m studying / answering in the material. Sometimes to save some time I would either skim or read the chapter review summary or even researching unknown words.

Usually the 3 strategies that I stated usually would work, especially when studying/reading Fredrick Douglass. Asking my self questions about the narrative would give me an insight of what the question is asking of me. Usually looking up words would help you to comprehend certain things in the narritive. To skim through certain reading can be helpful cause when you skim and stumble upon a certain topic, it might be the topic you have been looking for.

Juggling Life

Throughout my life I’ve had to multi task. Whether it was work, school, or even college classes. As I embarked on to the 11th grade, after the first 2 weeks I was requested to the dean’s office… At first I thought it was because of the fight that had occurred in the lunch room but I was wrong. As I made my way down the stairs filled with old gum and empty water bottles, I realized about 8 other students were also requested. When I arrived to the office with the scent of books and old food, the education director handed the 9 of us a piece of paper in regards to the admission of Community College of Philadelphia.
