Quick, Easy, and Delicious Recipes

Tired of eating the same foods for each meal? Want to try something new that is also quick and easy to make? For those of you living in the dorms, or in your own apartment, ingredients and supplies may limit you to what kind of meals you can make during your busy week. We stumbled across this website and thought we would share with you some quick and easy recipes that can be prepared with only a few ingredients, most which you can buy at the local grocer or even the anchor!

Breakfast:

Egg Muffins

It’s all the nutrients of eggs, with the convenience of a muffin. Simply crack 6 eggs into a bowl, beat them, and add in your favorite omelette toppings – like spinach, tomatoes, cheese, salt and pepper, really anything! Mix the ingredients together in the bowl, and pour them into a muffin tray (spray the tray with baking oil before). Bake at 375 for about 15 minutes. Let cool and that’s it! A tasty, healthy breakfast that you can eat on the go! It makes about 6, so wrap up the leftovers and stick them in your fridge for easy reheating tomorrow morning! breakfast-egg-muffins-7-683x1024

Lunch:

Lunch Smoothie

While Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are a timeless classic for lunch, sometimes eating the same sandwich gets pretty old. Switch things up with a delicious, healthy, and easy smoothie that is the refreshing boost you need in the middle of the day.

All you need is yogurt (I use Greek yogurt), your favorite fruits, and a tiny bit of milk. If you do not have milk, water or your favorite fruit juice works just fine. If your smoothie needs sweetening, add coconut water or honey, or even some nuts. Blend all of the ingredients together and you have yourself a meal that you can drink! You can also take this time to add your daily servings of vegetables that we sometimes don’t always get. Adding carrots or spinach or kale to a smoothie makes it even healthier and the best part – you don’t even taste the vegetables! The sweetness of the fruit and yogurt take over the taste of the veggies. This on-the-go lunch is filling, and only takes a few minutes to make!

Dinner:

Roasted Chicken and Vegetables

This super easy recipe is great because you can cater it to include all of your favorites. All you need is chicken breasts or legs (quantity depends on how many people are eating it), your favorite veggies, oil, salt and pepper. Take a baking pan and place the chicken in it. Cut up your favorite veggies (for me, it would be carrots, potatoes, and green beans) and place them in the same pan. Drizzle olive oil all over the ingredients and mix them in the oil. Keep mixing in the pan until all ingredients are covered with a thin layer of oil. Sprinkle some salt and pepper on top, and if you’re feeling bold, some spices of your choosing. Bake on 425 for 30 minutes, stirring after 15 minutes. CAUTION: always check that chicken is cooked through thoroughly before eating. Raw chicken is very bad for you and will make you sick. Use a fork and knife and cut the thickest part of the chicken to make sure that it is NOT pink. As long as it is white throughout, it is good to eat!

How to Stay on Top of School Work

Winter break flew by and Spring semester is finally here. The first week of classes are always nice and easy, and then week 2 comes around and suddenly you have papers, homework, quizzes, and other assignments due. Luckily, we know a thing or two about staying on top of your school work, and we are here to help. The biggest piece of advice on how to keep up with your assignments without letting your grades suffer is to start early, and here are some tips on how to do that.

  • Use a planner: We cannot stress how important and helpful planners are. They are an easy way to keep track of all assignments that you have coming up, as well as other reminders outside of school that you may need (like dentist appoints, pay days, or the events on our event calendar here.) . Make a habit of writing down all assignments that are given to you in your planner as soon as you know them. You may think you can remember, but it is easier to have it written down. Check your planner throughout the day, even if you do not think you have anything due. It is better to be sure than to miss an assignment. You can purchase a planner from amazon, the university store, Walmart, or practically any pharmacy like CVS.
  •  Check D2L regularly: Most, if not all, of your classes should be on D2L. This is a great website to use not only to turn in assignments or complete discussion posts, but for a number of other reasons. For one, your class syllabus usually contains an outline of the semester with assignment due dates, each weeks agenda, and other important information. It is not a bad idea to print this syllabus as well as add the assignments to your planner. D2L also is a way that most professors will communicate with you about upcoming assignments. If you go to the settings on D2L, you can enable text messages to be sent to your phone for things like grade updates, assignment due date reminders, and discussion posts. Professors sometimes will change the due dates of assignments, especially with the inevitable snow days we expect in February and March, and they will communicate these changes via D2L.
  • Check your MU e-mail: Your MU email is the only email that all professors have on file and most likely the only email that they will use to communicate with you. They will often email you in the event of class being canceled or due dates changing, so it is good to make a habit to check this email multiple times throughout the day. You can also find emails about cool events coming to campus!
  • Prioritize, don’t procrastinate: We all know how tempting it can be to put off homework and watch Netflix or hang out with friends instead. However, the earlier you start to procrastinate, the more work you will have build up. If you are given assignments long before they are do, it is usually because they are time-consuming assignments that cannot be done the night before. If you have learned the material and have the resources available, it is always a good idea to do your assignments ahead of time if you have free time over a weekend. You might as well get it done, in case something comes up right before it is due or you get assigned a project for another class. School can be unpredictable, so it is important to take advantage of free time. If you want to be able to spend time with friends, try getting together for a homework party. Everyone can bring their books and laptops and do homework together.

These are just a few ways to help you stay ahead of your assignments as the semester gets underway. Remember there are always resources available on campus, like tutoring, if you need help! Good luck with your semester, only 13 weeks left!

How To Survive The Winter Weather

How To Survive The Winter Weather

In the U.S specifically, Pennsylvania winter is normally really really cold, well cold is kind of an understatement its Freezing!  If you weren’t  here last winter we had a big snow storm which we had 27 inches of snow! That’s a lot of snow, as students we have to prepare for the crazy cold winter especially if we are walking around campus.

Here are some cool survival tips for the winter:

  • Stock up on food! This is very crucial if there is ever a snow storm. Even though dining services are open it is very hard to get around campus during a snow storm and super cold.
  • Invest in a big winter jacket, hats gloves and scarves. while your walking to and from class you don’t want to freeze.
  • Sign up for MU Alerts. Having these Alerts are very helpful they send information regarding if there is a school delay or if the school is closed.
  • Get Netflix, for snow days watch a nice movie and bundle up in covers and drinks lots of hot coco. Image result for hot cocoa on a cold day
  • If its too cold in your dorm get nice heating blanket they are inexpensive and keeps you super warm for the colder days.
  • Keep cold medicine handy , winter season is normally the flu and cold season as well be sure to have a box of Kleenex and cough drops near by.
  • If driving stay alert for black ice and snow on the roads.
  • Don’t want to be stuck in the house bored on a snow day ? Have fun board games and activities to do around your room.
  • Use  the snow day as time to catch up on homework or projects.
