Activities for Recently Returned Study Abroad Alumni

The Office of Global Education is excited to be hosting various programs and activities for students who recently returned from studying abroad during the Fall 2011 semester, including a Photo Contest, the Ambassador Program and a Return Survey! The last day to submit a Return Survey, a Photo Contest Application or an Ambassador Application is Friday, March 2, 2012. Career Week and Global Education

Looking for help on how to market yourself towards future employers? Trying to get an edge on the competitive job market? Then stop by one of Global Education’s presentations during the first day of Career Week! Representatives from the Office of Global Education will provide a “Study Abroad: A Good Career Move” session in the SMC MPR on Monday, February 13th at 10:30am, 11:30am, 12:30pm and 1:30pm. This session will demonstrate how a study abroad experience can benefit you both personally and professionally. Studying abroad looks great on resumes and portfolios as well as helping you develop international connections, essential skills and a global perspective!

Millersville Welcomes Dr. Alberto Ibáñez Fernández!

Millersville University is pleased to welcome Dr. Alberto Ibáñez Fernández, former Provost of MU’s partner university, Foro Europeo School of Business in Pamplona, Spain. Dr. Ibáñez Fernández, a 1992 Millersville graduate, is visiting MU to teach INTL 491: Cross-Cultural and International Negotiation.

In addition to his time as an undergraduate student at Millersville studying Computer Science and Business, Dr. Ibáñez Fernández has also obtained his MBA at the University of Houston and his PhD at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid, Spain.

We are excited for this opportunity to collaborate with faculty from our international partners and wish him the best of luck during his time at Millersville!

Expanding global opportunities is one of the eight priorities of Millersville University’s Soar to Greatness Capital Campaign. Through studying, interning and student teaching abroad, MU students are able to gain a cross-cultural understanding that will benefit them both personally and professionally.

Summer Study Abroad Info Session

Want to Get Outta the ‘Ville?

On Wednesday, November 16th, Global Education will host a “Get Outta the ‘Ville” Open House! Students are invited to drop by the Office of Global Education in Cumberland House between 10am-3pm to learn more information about studying, interning or student teaching abroad. Study abroad Program Coordinators will be available to meet with students who are interested in going abroad for academic credit and to discuss the study abroad process. Be one of the first 15 students in the door and receive a free drawstring backpack!

Internship Fair – November 1, 2011

Thinking about interning on campus or abroad? Stop by the Office of Global Education’s table at the Job and Internship Fair from 11am-1:30pm on Tuesday, November 1st at the SMC Multi-Purpose Room (MPR)! Global Education will provide information to students who are interested in interning both on campus in the Global Education office or abroad. Past MU students have interned abroad for academic credit in Australia, London, South Africa, Canada and more!

Internship details for Public Relations Majors

If you are any major other than what is listed above, you should contact your academic advisor(s) ASAP, provide them with the job description and ask if they would be willing to grant you credit for the internship. Global Education only accepts students who would be interning for academic credit.

To apply for an internship at the Office of Global Education, you will need to go through the Office of Experiential Learning and Career Management (the Internship Office) (http://www.millersville.edu/ices/internships/students.php) and complete the process.  Once you submit your resume to them, they will forward it to Global Ed., who will be in touch with you shortly!  You need to complete the process with the Internship Office by Wednesday, November 9th.

Global Education Announces New Fee Structure

A new fee structure is anticipated beginning with the Fall 2011 semester and will apply to all students who will be submitting an application to go abroad for academic credit. This will be effective for all Winter or Spring 2012 study/intern abroad participants (applications to be submitted by September 16, 2011). The new fee structure will consist of the following:

  • Application Fee: $50 (reflects anticipated increase)
  • Study/Intern Abroad Participation Fee: $500 (reflects anticipated increase)

Millersville Welcomes Dr. Caitlin Donnelly and Professor Joanne Hughes from Queen’s University Belfast, Northern Ireland!

The Office of Global Education is excited to announce Dr. Caitlin Donnelly’s Peace Education Ireland Symposium and Kenderdine Lecture on Wednesday, April 6, 2011. Dr. Donnelly is a lecturer in the School of Education at Queen’s University in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Her lecture is entitled “Church Involvement in Education – Lessons from Northern Ireland” and is a free event open to the public. The lecture will be held in Stayer Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) at 7pm.

Dr. Donnelly will be visiting MU along with Professor Joanne Hughes, who presented last year’s Peace Education Ireland Symposium lecture at Millersville. Both professors are visiting from Queen’s University in Belfast, Northern Ireland, which is an anticipated MU partner university.
