SMART Goal:
I will try my best to attend every class meeting to make myself a better student. This goal will keep me accountable for maintaining high grades and keep me motivated to complete my work.

Description: I, along with my engineering team, had to create a mechanism that transported the “hazardous” popcorn from its initial container to a new container. The mechanism had to be made of the provided materials and cannot have the operator(s) hands within a 1 by 1 foot box of the containers. The separated engineering teams had 30 minutes to create 3 different possible solutions. After the teams had created 3 solutions that worked they could go up to the professor and choose one that was going to be demoed to the class. The video above is my teams demoed solution to the given safety engineering problem given.
Reflection: This activity made me reflect and use the safety principals that we went over in class to effect my decisions on what would make a good design. This activity made me think about what designs were more protective to the workers than others. This will help me in my future to keep safety in mind when designing any products that I make for my job in the future.

Description: After completing the handed out Typography sheet I then had to apply the newly learned information about Typography to the activity. I then had to access Adobe and created multiple fonts for different events based on the descriptions. Additionally, I had to create a file for a keychain that would be a functional document that could be laser engraved.
Reflection: I learned about how to measure the size of the type, what the different terminology meant, the classifications of fonts, and how to lead. Through the typography assignment where we had to pick a font for the given description a name tags I both used my previous and newfound knowledge. I used my opinions for what I pictured the font to look like, then I consulted the classifications for the best choice font. This helped with saving time because I noticed that while my classmates were scrolling endlessly looking for the “perfect” fonts, I just read the descriptions, chose what “personality” of font I thought would be best for the description of the name tag, and then was able to choose between 3-4 fonts. I see myself using this classification strategy for future classes because when choosing fonts for a PowerPoint it will save time with the planning process and further, what I want my PowerPoint to convey through the presentations feeling.

Description: I had to research at least two academically credible sources through Millersville online library about Building Information Modelling (BIM). Using these sources I have to create a paper that described the advantages of using BIM in the construction field. What I found is that by using BIM architects can save costs by estimating how much energy a building will take up, and will give suggestions about how to maximise energy efficiency.
Reflection: This research project made me reflect on how BIM can be utilised by architects and engineers to have maximised efficiency with cost and limiting energy waste. Completing this report will make me think about the ecological effects of the products and code I produce in the future. This will also allow me to seek alternative programs that may be more efficient and cost effective for my projects.
Description: I was tasked to create multiple working switches with the given materials. My group and I had to create 3 working solutions that could light up the light bulb. Additionally all the switches had to be different in their construction. After all 3 switches were complete, there was a challenge circuit that used two separate 2-way switches to make the circuit functional.
Reflection: I have learned how to build a functioning circuit in multiple ways. My group used many different conductors to connect the wires and see how many objects could be used as conductors for the circuit. Some of the items my group used for the possible conductors were, scissors, paper clips, and the metal tabs. One example of when I will use this lesson is for my energy and power systems class I need to take. We will construct power systems and the simple circuits we built in this lesson will translate to what I will learn in that class.

Description: My group and I were instructed to create a 3D model of what a Lego brick would look like out of cardboard. My group had to measure the Lego brick and ensure that the 3D model was to scale. Additionally, my group had to cut out each layer and then stack it on top of one another to make the model, representing and understanding how a 3D printer would work.
Reflection: I discovered a new process to 3D print with a new program that I had not used before. I also learned how to use the program of Fusion to create and design a 3D Lego model that can be printed. I will use the knowledge I have gained from these lessons in future classes. As Professor Painter mentioned one of my classes, AENG 342 will use 3D construction as one of their lessons. I will also need to use this in my everyday job as a CADD major.

Description: Using the file that was made for the Typography assignment, I had to set up the laser engraver to engrave my design onto a piece of wood. This concept built upon the Typography assignment because if the file was not correctly done it would directly effect the engraving on the wood. Lastly, I had to add a chain to the keychain.
Reflection: This lesson will help me in my other classes in the AEST program because I have to still take production classes. Knowing how this laser engraver is set up and programmed I will be able to do this by myself and not have to ask for help when doing my projects with laser engraving. Additionally, I think that this will help me for my future job because we had to trouble shoot some of the program’s issues. As a CADD and Robotics major, I will have to trouble shoot these programs in my every day job.
