Overview: For the 3D modeling and printing activity, we used Fusion to model a Lego brick and then prepared the file for 3D printing in the makerspace. I followed the given dimensions to build the model and navigated the software through trial and error, as it was my first time using Fusion. Afterward, we learned how to load files into the printer and start a print. This experience introduced me to Fusion and showed me how similar it is to the CAD software I already use, which boosted my confidence for future courses.
Technical Concepts:
- Creating a 3D model in Fusion
- Understanding dimensions and constraints
- Exporting files for slicing and printing
- Basics of additive manufacturing processes
Brief Reflection: My extensive background in CAD helped me quickly pick up Fusion, a software I had never used before, but the activity still expanded my skills. I enjoyed helping classmates and realized how much I’ve already grown in 3D modeling ability. Learning how to download CAD software onto any computer will be useful as I continue in my major.
