Who are your Gurus?

Teachers and Educators have a large impact on the lives of their students. As a young student, I looked up to my teachers and would do anything to help them or make their lives easier. I was a “teacher’s pet” and now I am working towards becoming a teacher. My younger brother Sean was also a big factor in me becoming a teacher. He is five years younger than me and struggles with school. Before going off to college, I would review his tests with him and make sure he knew what he did wrong and what he would do next time. There is no better feeling than seeing a student have a “lightbulb moment”.

Who is influencing you as you work toward becoming a teacher? The answer is quite simple, my professors. They are teaching me everything I need to know about becoming a teacher and are preparing me for my own classroom. Since they are my educators, I am very easily influenced by their own pedagogies and opinions. Students, no matter what age, are heavily influenced by their teachers. Some professors I relate to more because I feel like I have a personal connection with them. When a professor takes that extra step to finding out what is going on in my life, I feel a sense of importance and am more likely to conform with their thoughts and beliefs about educating. Relating to and connecting with professor sticks, and so does the information they tell you about teaching.
