This course is designed to help students interpret current issues across different texts, media, cultures, and time periods. Under the theme of environmental justice, we will study some of the most pressing environmental issues today, including climate change, environmental racism, wilderness conservation, etc. as they are represented in literary texts and visual media. We will also trace the historical origins of the environmental movement into the nineteenth century as a response to the industrial revolution.
