Learning by Doing – Try Something New

My Try Something New assignment for Learning by Doing was an interesting event to be sure. We were told to come up with a task that, reasonably, we would be able to perform every day to create a habit. Mine was spending at least five minutes outside daily (this was in early fall, so the temperature was warmer than it is now), and I managed to complete it without too much hassle.

The concept behind this assignment is that you can build a habit in thirty days. A speaker in the TED talk we watched mentioned how he managed to write a novel in thirty days by writing a thousand words a day, building that habit. Now, was it a good novel? No, not in the slightest, but the habit was built and he could more easily write things in the future.

This practice of habit-building worked wonders, and I would sincerely recommend trying it out.
