My Future Plan

After really looking and analyzing these strategies i feel like i am more equipped to take better notes. I will print out my readings and highlight important topics within the article, highlight words i don’t know so i can look them up and have a better understanding of what i’m trying to read.  I will also write in the margins what each paragraph is about and pick out main topics. In lectures i will record them either on my phone or computer so that i have the lecture to reference too and go back and see what important topics i missed. I will spend at least 20 minutes or longer making sure i understand what i have read. I will make sure to analyze the readings and take notes on main topics and not write down everything.

  1. Yes it is specific, i have in detail what i want to do and times.
  2. In a way it is measurable, some aspects of what i planned out can be but others can’t.
  3. It is definitely achievable.
  4. Yes it is realistically taking into account time.

Reflecting on Note-Taking Strategies

Applying new note-taking strategies in both Dr.Garcia and Dr. Corkery’s class was a bit of a challenge. Cornell, concept mapping, or visual note-taking worked for me. These methods to me just seemed inefficient and took too much time. Visual note-taking wasn’t effective for me because i can’t draw and don’t really like to draw. The Cornell method just confused me with the different sections and trying to listen while writing down notes along with main topics. It was just too much time for me. Concept mapping to me was a bit childish because i did it in elementary and middle school and it didn’t really work for me then. I don’t really like it because it is a lot of time and lots of organization.

A moment when i was note-taking when i was aware of my thought process was when i had time to really read what i was taking notes on and setting my notes on main points, important information, names then dates along with interesting facts or ideas. Being in the program i don’t really have time to do this because we have a limited time for everything we do. I like to also relate it to either my life or someone i know to make the reading and note taking more fun and easy for me.

I am a very structured person so i like my notes to be highlighted, organized, and in different colors for different notes. This allows me to be a better learner and understand what i am reading. Along with remembering more details of what i read.

Reflecting on my reading strategies

At first i wasn’t sure what strategies to use or if they would work for me, surprisingly i found a couple i tried and some worked and some did not. One of the first strategies i tried was considering my surroundings. Another strategy i used was asking questing as i read in the margins and about the chapter titles. Then i tried to find answers for my questions to make sure i was comprehending what i was reading. I also wrote notes on what was important in the articles or book. I also tried to mentally visualize main points and read the abstract and discussion part of the article.

I found that considering my surroundings was a really helpful tool for me especially when trying to read longer articles I separated myself from people i knew i would talk to, so i could focus better. I found that sometimes asking questions was a little harder for me because i asked a lot and overwhelmed myself at times but most times it did help so i found answers to what i didn’t understand. Finding answers to what i was reading was helpful so i comprehended  everything i was reading. Writing notes about what i was reading really helped me to make sure i got the most important parts and ideas of the story. When i tried to mentally visualize the main points and read the abstract and discussion part of the article it didn’t really help me in any way it kind of confused me more.

I would like to use asking questions about what I’m reading or unsure of and asking questions about titles and chapters. I also would like to keep considering my surroundings so that i am being productive about my work. I am also going to keep finding answers to my questions to make sure i am comprehending what I’m reading. Along with taking notes about important topics or main ideas in the articles and books because this really helps me grasp what I’m learning.

I think i can use new reading strategies by reflecting on what i learned each time i find that I’m having a hard time comprehending  an article and try to do this at least for 5 minutes at time with each article at the end of every day. I also want to try and test my comprehension with another classmate at least twice a week depending on if I’m not understanding it then i will do this more often so that I can understand what I am reading.

Pet Care Technician

Being a pet care technician involves more than what people actual think. My job is not just playing with dogs all day. My job is keeping the dogs in safe environment while they play and interact with different dogs that come to the resort.

  1.  You have to go through training videos and make sure you understand the different breeds of dogs, what play is safe and what is not, the body language of the dogs, and what they mean.
  2.  You work with one dog at time at first to make sure you understand what to look for in a dogs body language and what is appropriate play.
  3. You have to be confident in your ability to lead the dogs
  4. You have to be comfortable with being with 15 to 20 dogs at a time and watching each dog
  5. You have to learn the dogs themselves to know which dogs are more temperamental or going to give you the most trouble
  6. You also have to care about each and every dog to love what you’re doing

It can be challenging at times because you have to be a strong minded individual and a natural leader. You have to be alert and pay attention to detail.
