Workers Safety

Worker safety is a critical aspect of any workplace, ensuring that employees are protected from potential hazards that could lead to injury or illness. It involves implementing safety protocols, providing necessary protective equipment, and conducting regular training to help workers identify and mitigate risks. Prioritizing worker safety not only protects employees but also improves productivity, morale, and overall business performance.

In this project we worked in groups to move a hazardous material “corn kernels” from one container to another. You could not be above the table and had to be as far away as possible. To move the container with the corn there was different materials and items such as, bands, tennis rackets, tape, string, pool floaties, sticks, etc. My group tried to use a tennis racket, but it wouldn’t work because the kernels would sometimes miss the container when we were pouring them in. We ended up splitting a long piece of tape in half and the sticking it to the container, then using two people dumped the corn in the other container and then getting the empty container off the tape. In this project we learned when it comes to safety doing a task that is difficult to do by yourself is better to do with one or more people.

Electrical Circuits

This project was a group activity.  I had just recently worked on electrical circuits in another class, helping understand this project. In the project we had to make switches to turn a light on. We were given select materials to make a switch which made you have to think about what materials were conductors and insulators. One way my group did this was using scissors and attaching wires to both sides with rubber bands. When the two wires connected the light would turn on.  We also made other switches using different materials.

Course Portfolio

This class was a mixture of projects from different shop classes. The projects were fun, and some pertained to what I was doing in other classes. In the class we worked in groups and individually. In the class we went to a vegetable farm to help them out. This class was like an intro to shop classes that I would be taking in the future.

My career goal is to become a shop teacher and teach at my hometown high school and become a golf coach there. I hope to further my understanding in all trades and learn more in all shop classes. I also would like to work on my communication skills while being here at Millersville. Academically I hope to graduate in 4 years with the 129 credits needed. I plan on taking summer and winter courses in the future to help with this.

3D Modeling

We all have played with Legos as kids, if it was following directions for builds or making something randomly. I loved playing with Legos my childhood and learning how to make one was cool to me.

Designing the Lego brick was a learning opportunity for me, since I have not done much work on 3D designing before.  When I started to design the brick, I understood how to start it, but didn’t know what to do afterwards. I later found out how to extrude, fill, duplicate, and fillet. Now I believe that I can do another 3D design and understand what to do.

Printing the Lego brick was cool. I watched how the design was sent to the printer. Then I watched how molding was layered on top of each other making the Lego brick. The printing can be monitored from your phone with an app, to watch the process.  After the printing is done You would get a notification and get the model. The printer will clean the nozzle after finishing the print.

Overall, this project was a huge learning experience for me.  When doing this project, I knew how to do few functions, and finished knowing how to do most functions. I loved doing the project because it was like my childhood again and how the Legos that I played with so much, were made.

Materials Processing

Typography

I had fun doing the typography project. I liked how we all write our name differently depending on the situation. I realized that in different job name tags, you should choose different fonts and sizes. Every font gives a different vibe, and when someone sees it, it can be a first impression.

Laser Engraving

Laser engraving felt like an extension to typography to me. It felt cool to go from a name tag to adding artwork or quotes and then engraving them on a surface of a material. I chose to have my name and a quote from my favorite music artist, NF. The digital part of the project was easy after going through the typography project. The laser engraving part was cool to see the actual process of material being removed. This was my favorite project in the class.
