Writing as Therapy By Nya Lewis

I write because it comes to me so naturally. I find other academic subjects to be hard, but writing I’ve never had too much struggle with. Once I get started, I don’t stop until I’m done. My mind just races with ideas when writing a paper. I enjoy writing subjects that interest me or subjects I’m familiar with. I feel like these topics make writing even more enjoyable. Essays don’t feel like classwork when the topic is enjoyable…

I also write because it can be very therapeutic. I find that write out my feelings sometimes can really calm me down & relax me. I’ve recently discovered the writing poetry really relaxes my soul. I always enjoyed reading poetry a lot, but never thought to write my own. Once I did, I discovered how beneficial it can be. I’ve written poems for almost every emotion I’ve gone through. Regardless of how happy or how sad I am; I write it out.

I may not be the best writer in the world, but that’s not important to me. I know I’ve improved so much throughout the years & it’s been an experience improving my writing. I enjoy reading my writing from the past because I feel like I’m reading another person’s work. I don’t relate much to my old way of writing which can be both good and bad.
