For the small semester, I’m going to use the reading strategies that I have learned throughout the program. When reading a story or article, I will write down the words I don’t know and find the definition. Another strategy that I like is, writing notes on the side while I am reading the story. I like reading in quiet places while listening to music. Another strategy is, planning my writing and reading in sections. Write questions while reading, then writing the answers later. I believe this will help me during the fall semester.
note taking strategies
The new note taking skills are very helpful. One way it helps is writing questions as you go along in the story. Another way is looking for bold or italicized words that may seem important. Find words that you don’t know, write them down, and then later find the definitions.
The moments when I realized when I was made aware of my thought process were when I came across words I didn’t know. Another time was when on a test I actually remembered what I had wrote down. Also, there was a time when the teacher asked me a question and I could explain it in detail.
I learn better when I find definitions to words and understand the reading. My strengths mix with the note taking skills because I know what works best for me in certain environments. One of my strengths are taking notes down when I need them. The last thing is note taking is a very important thing in the college world well actually in general. Note taking is what helps humans remember things when their brains can’t remember all the information that we receive.
reflecting on my new reading strategies
While reading with Dr. Garcia and Dr. Corkery’s class I have learned that reading strategies are very important while studying. My favorite reading strategy is reading in a quiet place, all alone. This strategy helps me because it helps me focus on what I’m reading. People can’t focus when there is lots of noise going on. Another strategy that works is skimming the story to see what the story is about.
Some things that don’t work are mentally visualizing main points. This is hard for me because it is too hard for me to mentally visualize something then I can’t remember it when I need it. another thing that doesn’t work for me is, to draw a concept map. First of all I don’t even know how to do that. And, it’s a little bit too much work.
The strategies that I will keep using are reading in a quiet place, skimming the book for clues, studying ideas, and etc. When fall session begins the reading strategies will come in handy when we get a lot of homework and/or readings from classes.
Everyone has their own reading strategies that they like to use. one of my favorites is listening to music while studying. This helps me because it keeps me focused on what im supposed to do.
Dance is in my blood
It took me 15 years to learn how to dance. Dance takes compassion, time, and energy if you want to success in that field. When it comes to dance adaptability is huge concept. You have to learn how to use your time wisely and you find what strengths & weaknesses that you might have. Dance makes you feel free, physically fit, and it builds self confidence. The feeling I get when I dance is something I never want to forget. It makes me feel happy and it makes me feel good about myself. the challenges that I experienced with dance are I had to be committed and I had to make some sacrifices. some of the sacrifices are not being able to make parties, going to family events, sports events, etc. I think later on in life there will be a time to settle down and think about my health and the well-being of my family.
