Typography

In the typography lesson we learned about the basics of how to use adobe illustrator for typography. We were taught how to make a text box and edit the text. We were also taught how to pick a font. The main takeaway from this lesson was that it’s important to match your font to the scenario. For example, in the assignment below we had to make name tags for different kinds of people, and for president I chose a bold and powerful font, since the president holds power.

Materials Processing

In this lesson we used a laser engraver to make a personalized keychain. The most time consuming part of this process was making the design in illustrator, and making sure that every line was the correct stroke and color. After the file was complete we uploaded it to the laser engraver and printed our designs onto a small piece of cherry wood.

Construction

Below is my report on engineering failures

Electronics

In this lesson we were tasked with creating a decoration that lights up. This decoration had to include some kind of on/off switch. I chose to do a card design, with a Christmas tree on the front. The act of opening and closing the card is what turned the light on and off.

3D Modeling

In this lesson we used Fusion to create a 3D model of a lego brick. We then used the Fusion file to 3D print the lego bricks. I found this process quite easy any had no problems following the paper instructions on how to design the lego brick.

Safety Engineering

In this lesson we were tasked with designing a device that can move popcorn kernels from one container to another without spilling any. We came up with multiple designs but our most successful was one that resembled a large pair of tongs. We were successful in not spilling any kernels.
