R2P Final Synthesis

Observation:

Through all of these different posts, I was encouraged to make my own conclusions. I observed many different behaviors in the classroom, observing different classroom management skills from both the students and the teachers. It was important for me to learn to reflect positively and learn as much as I could from the experiences I saw. One thing I need to work on is recording my thoughts in a better way. It’s hard for me to write down every little detail and that usually isn’t necessary, but if I don’t record anything, by the time I try to reflect I forget a lot of details. I need to find a happy medium that works for me to remember my observations efficiently.

Question:

It is important to include questions throughout to keep smooth transitions and make the sections build off of each other. The blog will run smoothly and all the ideas will connect transitioning the reader to the conclusion. We don’t want to leave our readers at the end with many questions about them not understanding what they just read.

Research:

Using hyperlinks in the posts are important. It provides the reader not only with the sources but with more information from the site if needed. By providing books, videos, etc, the reader is informed with an adequate amount of information needed about the specific topic. Also as a blogger, more information and other websites will give us incite as to what we can elaborate on and incorporate in our posts.

Reflection:

We should reflect on the different sections individually to see where we need to improve and where more information is needed. Including open ended questions and rhetorical questions keeps the reader engaged and wanting to know more about the topic. Also by keeping the audience engaged, we are asking them to reflect on the topic with us and review everything as a whole.

Technology:

There are so many benefits of technology in the classroom. We can link information right in our posts so that the reader has easy access to it and can find out more information if needed. Also, my knowledge with technology has increased dramatically and it will continue to increase as time goes on.

If I were to experience this R2P project again, I would make the posts due closer together so our observations can relate better. It’s hard with the field experiences only being once a week so we have so much to observe each week to put into our posts. This project has really taught me a lot about how to observe different things, research them, and relate them to other ideas. I also have never really blogged before so learning all of those aspects are a really good take away from this project. To the next ERCH 496 students, I would tell them to really stay on top of the posts and record as much data as they can in the field. It is important to take notes but not write every single little detail down. Maybe make little notes so they can remember later on exactly what they are talking about. I think each post should vary a little bit from week to week to keep the writer more interested. I think a new item should be incorporated each week to keep it interesting. Yes, the topic changed each week but I think the way the blog post or podcast was done should change.

Educator’s in the classroom like to use reward systems to enforce positive behaviors. This can be both a pro and a con. All student like rewards and prizes until they become uninterested and bored with what is being provided. It is important for teachers to know their students and know what will help them with positive behaviors.

It is important that the rewards being handed out benefit all students and meets all of their needs. If you give out food that the students don’t like or prizes that they aren’t interested in, they most likely won’t be interested in doing what is expected. It’s easy to do a quick survey in the beginning of the year to find out what each student likes and what interests them so you can incorporate that. Slowly, the reward system can create a routine and the students will know what is expected of them.

Classroom Management and its Effects on Student’s Behaviors

Organizing the classroom to fit the student’s needs will not only benefit the students, but the teacher as well. It is important that the teacher has access to all of the students and the student have clear access to everything in the classroom. Especially with young ELL students, I have noticed that organizing shelves with pictures, English words, and Spanish words will help the students be able to locate things easier and it also helps their English language development. Just while cleaning up, the students are able to associate certain objects with the English words just by being able to look at the labels. One thing that is hard is trying to find what works specifically for a class. It takes time to get to know the students so over time, the arrangement and management of the classroom will develop. Varying lessons and trying different reinforcements with students will help the teacher get to know what works for the students and what doesn’t. Setting clear expectations from the beginning of the year is also very important with any school age students. Reviewing them every day with the students helps with repetition and it will help the students remember what is expected from them. Another thing is focusing on positive reinforcement and positive attitudes in the classroom. Students want to be encouraged positively and by doing this the students will see the positive relationship between the teacher and the student.

Teacher Temperament and the Impact on Children

The temperament and attitudes of the teacher in the classroom has such an impact on the children in multiple ways. The amount of interpersonal interactions with the students on a daily basis impact their academic and behaviors in and out of the classroom (Lippard, 2018). Not only does positive behaviors of teacher’s effect students, but so does negative behavior. As many studies show, positive behaviors have more of a positive effect on student making them feel good about themselves. When teachers are constantly yelling at student it has an impact on them. Some tend to emotional and become afraid of the teacher. It is important for us as future educators to realize how much of an impact we have on our students. Whether we are having a bad day or something happened to change our mood, we need to not take it out on the student and work through it. Yelling at students constantly in situations where they don’t need to be yelled at is unnecessary such as washing hands, not cleaning up fast enough, etc. Expressing ourselves the correct way to our students and building relationships with them is an effective way to create a safe environment for our classroom.
