Nanostructured Metals

Transmission electron micrograph in brightfield (top) and darkfield (bottom) mdoes of a nanocrystalline brass alloy after annealing at 600 C.

Metals have a variety of properties which are size dependent. Typically their mechanical properties can be enhanced or uniquely controlled as a function of size. Nanostructured metals pose many unique opportunities, but they also present many unique challenges in processing. In the related pages, some of both will be discussed.
