As we begin the 2011-12 year, Millersville University seizes this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to ensure a campus community where students, faculty, and staff enjoy an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust.  As members of the University community, we all share the joint responsibility to provide a harassment-free workplace and academic learning environment.  This shared responsibility is linked directly to our Strategic Direction of “cultivating a community of diverse people, thoughts, and perspectives.”  For this reason and to maintain compliance with several mandates including Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and its implementing regulations, you are being provided with the University’s newly revised Sexual Harassment and Sex Discrimination policy.

Our institutional aspiration and core value of diversity is well characterized within our Commitment to an Inclusive Community statement:

“Millersville University of Pennsylvania, within its authority, further commits to ensuring an environment that is inclusive and respectful of all people, and expects equal and non-hostile treatment of any person or group by all on the basis of: race or ethnicity; gender; sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression; campus status (i.e., student, faculty, or staff); marital status; age; religion or belief system; persons with disabilities; or national background or origin.”

To advance our efforts in support of this important core value, the Offices of Social Equity & Diversity and Human Resources will partner to provide prevention and education workshops to the campus community regarding changes to the policy.  Incorporated into the workshops will be the completion of an online prevention tutorial.  The tutorial can be accessed by clicking on the following link: http://training.newmedialearning.com/pwh/millersville/.

I wish the entire campus community a productive and successful academic year.  If you have any questions regarding the attached policy statement, please contact the University’s Title IX Coordinator below:
