University Theatre presents ‘Heathen Valley’

University Theatre is proud to present
Heathen Valley
by Romulus Linney
Directed by Tony Elliot

Set in the 1860s in a remote valley in the mountains of North Carolina, the play centers on the desire of the Episcopal Bishop of North Carolina to bring the word of God to a community so removed that brothers marry sisters ad the people live lives of brutal violence and grinding poverty.  But trying to force strong-willed people to accept organized religion is never a good idea.

In this play, which the Philadelphia Daily News called a “minor masterpiece,” Romulus Linney creates characters who are at once sympathetic and horrifying, creating humanity and nobility in the most unlikely places and situations.
