Creative Writing Contest

Win $250 from the bookstore

Inspiration: The scenarios in Einstein’s Dreams allow us to imagine life in different ways.  As the author creates different worlds of time, the characters behave to fit the constraints of each time reality. But the author does little to develop these characters.  This writing contest asks you to develop a story within one of the time scenarios described in Einstein’s Dreams.  Pick one of the chapters and develop a story that engages specific characters of your creating.  You decide how the altered time reality plays into the action.  The judges will be looking for stories no longer than 1250 words (typed, double-spaced) that:

•        engage creatively with theme(s) of the book;
•        present an intelligible insight, critique, or question on the theme;
•        demonstrate effective use of narrative form.

Instructions: All MU undergraduates are eligible for this contest.  Submit your story to Carla Rineer’s mailbox in the English Department by 5:00 p.m. on October 15.  Make sure your submission is typed, double-spaced, pages stapled.  Put the title at the top of the first page.  Put the story title, your name, phone number, address on a separate sheet, as well.  Submit the story and contact sheet together.

Two winners will be given $250 to spend at the bookstore.

Finalists and winners will have a chance to read their work publicly on November 11 at 7:00 in the Ford Atrium.
