Abstract

For millennia music has been an important part of humanity’s existence, and has played a crucial role in the development of our species.  Music has functioned differently in different societies throughout history, but people have always wanted to listen to it.  There is a natural bond between our brains and music, which gives us a deep emotional connection to its existence. By studying research and experiments conducted by others interested in this idea, I will be exploring the ways in which music affects our brains physiologically, the ways our brains receive and process the music they come in contact with, and the reasons that we have a deep emotional investment in music.
