MU Alum Wins Emmy Award

The Capital Emmy Award Goes to Megan Wise!

When most people think of the Emmy Awards, they think of the star-studded red carpet of Hollywood. However, you won’t find the likes of Anne Hathaway, Tom Cruise or The Rock walking this red carpet. The 60th annual Capital Emmy Awards was held on June 23rd in Rockville, MD, and Millersville University (MU) alum, Megan Wise ’09 took home an award as the meteorologist on the best morning newscast in a medium market.

Wise graduated from MU in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in meteorology. Before taking the job at NBC 12 in Richmond, Va., she worked for WDEF in Chattanooga, TN, where she produced, anchored and forecasted the weather for their weekend newscasts.  Wise’s broad skill-set was on display in a weekly outdoor segment called “Megan Wise Goes Outside” where she got to do everything from exploring caves to hang gliding.

The National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is the chapter responsible for awarding the Emmy to those who work in the television industry in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.

The Emmy Award is the premier television production award presented in various sectors of the television industry, including entertainment programming, news and documentary shows and sports programming.
