A leader of the modern American Civil Rights Movement, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was widely regarded as America’s preeminent advocate of nonviolence. Millersville University (MU) plans to honor his legacy with events scheduled on Jan. 15 (Martin Luther King Day) and during Black History Month.
MU will host the 30th annual Crispus Attucks Community Center’s Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast, in Marauder Courts in the Student Memorial Center on campus from 7 to 9 a.m. on Jan. 15. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, a renowned author, public intellectual, social justice activist and professor of Media Studies and Urban Education at Temple University.
At 11:45 a.m., Millersville University will ring the bell tower on campus 39 times, to signify the 39 years of King’s life.
Children in grades one to five are invited to attend a day camp in celebration of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. The camp will take place on Jan. 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lancaster. Playwright Barry Kornhauser, who oversees the Family Arts Collaborative at Millersville University, will lead a movement workshop at the camp.
