The Next Big Rock Act

Millersville student Tyler Ritter will play at Viper Room on Sunset Boulevard.

Lehighton band Another Day Dawns (A.D.D.), featuring singer Dakota McGeehan, drummer Nick McGeehan, bassist Livi Dillon, and guitarist and Millersville University sophomore, Tyler Ritter are in the running to be “the next big rock act.” Ritter is a Music Business Technology major at Millersville.

After months of grueling preparation, their hard work paid off when they were selected as finalists in a national contest by Cumulus Media radio stations and Big Machine Records to find the next big rock act in which they will be competing in Los Angeles on Dec. 12.

Beginning as a teen band under the name A.D.D. in 2010, Another Day Dawns was initially a cover band, but has recently gone on to write original songs. In January the band released its debut single, “Love She’s After” on Flexitone Records label. “We’ve been a cover band for years, and people are going to remember us for that,” McGeehan said in a recent interview in The Morning Call. “But now we have a solid lineup, we’re putting out good original music and we’re getting tighter and refining our sound.” Since then, A.D.D. has played headline shows at area venues and has opened for Sammy Hagar, Fuel, Godsmack, Puddle of Mudd, Tesla and Trapt, but was looking to step up their game with something bigger.

A.D.D. won out over eight other bands in a regional music competition held by radio station 97.9X, WBSX- FM near Wilkes-Barre. Local winners moved on to the national challenge, submitting a live performance video that showcased their best original work. The top five artists were then selected by rock industry professionals to compete at the finals concert. With A.D.D. among those winners, they will be heading to Los Angeles for a Dec. 12 concert with four other groups at the famed Viper Room on Sunset Boulevard where celebrity judges will choose the winner of the NeXt2rock contest. The concert will be streamed live and the winner will get a record deal through a joint partnership with Big Machine and John Varvatos Records, which has also signed groups such as the Zac Brown Band as well as airplay.

At the finals concert, A.D.D. will perform three songs. Members said they have chosen their tunes “Don’t Count Me Out,” “Am I?” and “Let Me in Your Head.”

“Those three songs, we’ve recorded and they were the ones we’ve competed with already,” Ritter said. “So we’re pretty solid.”

An interview with the band was featured in the December 4 edition of The Morning Call.
