Backpack Drive by Students for Student Non-Profit

Bring backpacks to donate to the SMC on Monday, November 13.

On Monday, November 13 from 11:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. in the Millersville University’s Student Memorial Center Atrium, a group of public relations students will hold a free concert and backpack collection drive that will be donated to a local nonprofit, Legacy Holding Foundation. Legacy Holding Foundation’s mission is to collect backpacks filled with school supplies to donate to the children of Liberia, Africa suffering from a 14 year civil war.

The nonprofit was founded in 2009 by Grace and Barchue Guar. Grace is a student at Millersville graduating in December. After living most of her young-adult life in Liberia during the civil war, Grace managed to seek freedom by moving to the United States in 2001. Her and Barchue created this foundation in memory of her mother and to help rebuild the education system that was left tattered.

The goal of Legacy Holding Foundation is to collect 1000 backpacks filled with school supplies and 25 laptops to donate to the children of Liberia by March 1, 2018.

Barchue will be performing a free concert during the campus event. If you are interested in donating to Legacy Holding Foundation, an online drive is taking place on GoFundMe.
